Visiting Professors Program

Visiting Professor

On the basis of the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education dated December 7, 2016, amending the regulation on the mode of allotting grants from the national budget to public and private institutions of higher education, a Visiting Professor:

  • Does not hold Polish citizenship;
  • Holds the title of professor or is employed as an associate professor at another university or a foreign research institution or as an institute professor at an institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a research institute or an international institute;
  • Is obliged to carry out a min. of 60 hours of didactics within a given academic year; the course(s) must be concluded with a chosen form or crediting.

The mode of the courses you conduct as a Visiting Professor include min. 60 didactic hours in a given academic year, concluded with a chosen form of crediting. The course you offer as a Visiting Proffesor can be a part of the curriculum taught at the JU unit, or an original course, as per the needs of the faculty.

Application

Applications for the Program are submitted by staff members of the Jagiellonian University. If you wish to join JU as a Visiting Professor, please contact one of the JU Faculties or Doctoral Schools directly to arrange the details of your visit and establish your Host.

The offer of the Program

The offer of the Visiting Professors Program includes accommodation in one of the flats rented for the purposes of the Program, a one return trip in economy class to the home country in the academic year and the the remuneration (in the amount of PLN 15,000). Health and accident insurance is NOT included in the offer.

Post-acceptance actions

REGISTRATION

Once you are accepted for the Program please register in the JU Central Register for International Guests via the Registration Form. Registration is required for securing travel and accommodation arrangements.

TRAVEL

From the budget of the Program the Jagiellonian University covers the cost of travel (one-off, return ticket, economy class), within the limits defined for particular countries of residence. Before finalizing the purchase you are required to have the chosen connection approved by Ms Monika Kołek on behalf of the Program Coordinator, so as to ensure that the ticket cost does not exceed the defined limit.

You can buy your own ticket or have it bought by the Hosting Unit from its own funds. In either case, the purchase must be made in accordance with the regulations in force at the Jagiellonian University:

  1. with the cost reimbursed based on the Refund Claim Form:

To receive the ticket cost refund, you need to provide Ms Monika Kołek with the completed Refund Claim Form (available for download), boarding passes / tickets and other documents proving the expense. If the ticket price exceeds PLN 3,500 net, you are also required to submit at least 3 connection offers as of the day of ticket purchase for the selected date and route. 

As the cost of the tickets is to be reimbursed from the JU funds, you are required to choose the connection which is the most economical in terms of price and/or time. 

You are responsible for making any necessary changes in the initial travel arrangements and contacting the ticket provider on your own in this respect.

Please inform the International Relations Office that you intend to travel by car. The cost of travel will then be subject to reimbursement​ based on the completed Refund Claim Form (available for download).

INSURANCE

In Poland health insurance is obligatory and your insurance coverage depends on the type of contract you conclude with your hosting unit. Refer to your hosting unit to obtain information on your contract type. ;

  • If your employment is based on a contract of mandate (umowa-zlecenie) you are entitled to compulsory health insurance in the National Health Fund (Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia, NFZ);
  • If your employment is based on a specific task contract (umowa o dzieło) you are not provided by JU with any insurance coverage; it is therefore necessary for you to obtain a comprehensive insurance policy valid in Poland throughout the mobility period, covering insurance to the extent required by JU, in particular the costs of: medical care in case of illness, transport to and stay in a hospital, medical visits, treatment in a medical facility, unfortunate accidents determined by your tasks at JU as well as potential consequences of such accidents. Please note that you are obliged to provide the JU International Relations Office with a copy of your insurance policy, issued in or translated into English;
  • Regardless of the contract type, make sure that you have adequate insurance coverage to the extent required by JU for the travel period.

​TAXATION

Secure your Certificate of Tax Residence (issued in or translated into English), in order to avoid double taxation.

You should bring the hardcopy of the Certificate. Polish translation is required, but not necessarily a sworn one.

ACCOMODATION

  • Accommodation is provided by the Jagiellonian University in apartments located in Krakow.
  • Once your visit is set you will receive an e-mail from the International Relations Office regarding your accommodation.
  • Collect the keys from the International Relations Office (4 Czapskich Street, 31-110 Kraków) in accordance with the e-mail arrangments.
